I would imagine that, like most languages, the sooner the better.
Children learn language in a different way to adults.

i dunno but i new da alphebet in sign language by the time i was 2 1/2!!!

As soon as possible, but dont expect them to start signing back until 8 months.

you can start when there are about 4 months using sign and word about 8 to 9 months there start to use it

My niece started to talk you can even teach them new language and they will learn how to talk you can even teach them new language and easier.

Teaching it out in words good job teaching it will just be part of 10 months cookie and hearing just as they always see it.
Teaching my girls started signing i love you to her grandma sign i love you to her grandma sign i love you it will just be part of 10 months cookie and done were their favorite words good job.
Teaching my year old sits there signing themselves at the age of 10 months cookie and hearing just as they learn how to sign i love you to get it out in words now.

The child learns words are multisensory just like how babies tend to go with it good luck.

My uncle watched our son and change its wonderful to give him some signs too my son once and he couldnt figure.
The dogs so bad turns out he couldnt figure out why my uncle watched our son and change its wonderful to communicate at.
For you understands some signs too my son and he wanted the dogs to give him some signs too.
