Ok so it seems like I have been applying for a teaching assistant job at HISD forever. I have just recently finished my bachelors. I have faxed my resume, called schools to check on my application and everytime i get an answer that they have already picked someone. Do they only select people on “connection” basis. if anyone who is already a teaching assistant at HISD can you please share how you got the job and what should I do?

I’m for it! Unfortunately the idiots in the anti-gun left will scream all day about it, then turn around and support teaching 8 year old kids how to put a condom on a cucumber. The best way to reduce gun accidents is education. If people teach their kids about guns, then the kids won’t see it as some mysterious thing Dad keeps in the closet. They will understand what it is, what it does, and what it can do to them if they treat it like a toy.

I am considering going back to college for a Masters degree in mathematics, and then teaching math in a community college. How hard is it to get a full-time position in math at a community college? Can anyone point me to some serious research? I’m told by some (guidance counselors, profs with tenure) that there is a shortgage of mathematics teachers but I have not seen any actual data to back up this claim. I’m told by others (unemployed or underemployed liberal arts majors) that it is impossible to get a full time teaching position at a community college.
I like math, but I don’t want to go back to college and then find out it’s impossible to get a job teaching math.

Some kids are wonderful but other’s are brats that take advantage of one and I’m tired of fighting them. I have a 2 and 3 year old. They know their basic colors, the alphabet, they can count to 10 in english and spanish. How would I go about teaching them to write? I thought that I would first start teaching them shapes, how to draw them and then start showing them how to write the alphabet, would that be the right order? Any suggestions?
